Super Nature: Hemp Automat
Installation, 2021

Public realm curation and commissioning for King’s Cross, 'Hemp Automat' was a 24-hour, fully automated shopping experience where shoppers could learn about and buy a selection of Hemp products during the London Design Festival.

As part of our ongoing research on this high-performance regenerative material and having already specified hemp for several projects, we were keen to showcase just a few of the hundreds of uses of this carbon-negative wonder plant.

"Just planting the hemp crop can quickly sequester tons of carbon from the atmosphere. Its long, deep roots help to de-compact the soil and it acts as a strong break crop. The cellulose content within (60-70%) means it is a great natural alternative for many materials including a bio-plastic that can decompose, protecting our oceans. More recently millions of people have become aware of the nutritional value in the seeds, and its remarkable cannabidiol (CBD) content that can be extracted from the leaves and flowers" - Steve Barron of Margent Farm.

Partnering with Kiosk N1C and ANMAC we created an offering where visitors could learn about hemp’s amazing properties and purchase products from Coal Drops Yard retailers alongside Margent Farm, Kvadrat, BUAISOU, HempWood and many more from a fully automated 24/7 retail, COVID-safe contactless machine.
